Task 5: Supporting Social and Emotional Development
What is challenging behaviour?

According to Ellen C. Frede of the National Institute for Early Education Research, ‘challenging behaviour is any repeated pattern of behaviour that interferes with learning or engaging in social interactions’.
managing challenging behaviour:
Target child / group: Ghzlan and Khlood (3 C) Date:18.10.15
Problem Behaviour:
Reluctance to stop moving around, work on the task and listen to teacher’s instructions to do so.
Trigger:
Students are directed to stop moving or talking, When the teacher says “Stop, look and listen” or “Freeze” All the students must be quiet immediately.
Function:
The child may not interested in the topic/subject and, she preferes to speak in arabic, so she don't listen to the teacher.

What can I do to prevent
the problem behavior?
What can I do if the
problem behavior occurs?
What new skills
should I teach?
Outcome:
How successful was your planning?
Discuss with the students the good behaviors and the class rules in a positive way and praise students who are quiet and polite.
Create a Praise and reward systems, involve recognition of good behavior
Trying to get their attention
by calling their names and
then ask them a question.
Ask them to look at their peers
who are quiet and praise them.
Give them a job like make them
to be a leader of a group or a
teacher's assisstant.
For those who are
moving too much during
class, the teacher could
put a border lines
and tell them don't get
out of the lines.
And to make them good listeners, teacher could ignore them when they talk to her, and then she explains that it was unpleasent behavior. This will make them relaize their mistake.
They responded well once they hear
"Stop, look and listen" or Freeze".
The lines strategy for those who are moving too much worked very well.
It kept them aware of their specefic area which they can only move inside it. Also it makes them listen carfully
to the teacher.
In addition, for those who do not
listen to the teacher,
ignoring strategy worked well too.
They understand that they have to respect and listen to the teacher
when she is talking.
Recommendations for future action:
In Managing challenged behaviors, teacher needs to understand the reason behind bad behaviors. Moreover, she needs to know how she can make a child approaches learning from social and emotional prespective. Hence, I beleive that it is important to consider relationships with students and emotional development to manage challenged behaviors positively.
